Why Convert WebP to PNG?
You downloaded an image from a website and it saved as a .webp file — and now an older photo viewer, PowerPoint, or an upload form simply won't accept it. WebP is the format many sites serve to load faster, but it isn't supported everywhere yet. Converting WebP to PNG turns that file back into the format every app, operating system, and upload field understands.
PNG is also the safer choice when you need to do something with the image: drop it into Photoshop, Canva, or a slide to edit it, send it to a printer, or upload it somewhere that only accepts PNG and JPG. And if the WebP has a transparent background — a logo, icon, or sticker — PNG keeps that transparency intact.
In short: WebP is built for fast websites; PNG is built for everything else. This tool does the WebP to PNG conversion in seconds, in your browser, without uploading a thing.
WebP vs PNG: What's the Difference?
PNG is a lossless image format that stores every pixel exactly and supports full transparency, opened by virtually every program. WebP is Google's newer web format that makes images smaller — great for websites, but not yet accepted everywhere.
WebP was designed to shrink images so web pages load quickly, which is why so many sites serve it. The downside is compatibility: plenty of desktop software, upload forms, and older apps still don't recognise it.
PNG takes the opposite approach — it never throws pixels away and is supported nearly everywhere. Converting WebP to PNG trades a larger file size for universal compatibility, lossless quality, and easy editing.
How to Convert WebP to PNG in 3 Steps
There's nothing to install and no account to create. Here's how to convert WebP to PNG from any device with a modern browser.
Add your WebP files
Drag your images — or a whole folder — onto the box above, or click to browse. Everything stays on your device; nothing is uploaded to a server.
Click Convert to PNG
Each WebP is decoded by your browser and re-encoded as a lossless PNG, with any transparency in the source preserved.
Download your PNGs
Save each PNG, or grab them all in one ZIP. Converting a whole folder is fine — there's no server, so there's no batch limit.
Pro tip: PNG is larger than WebP by design (lossless). If you'll re-upload the image to the web and want it lean again, convert it back with our PDF to WebP tool.
Animated WebP to PNG: What Happens?
Some WebP files are animated, like a short looping clip. PNG, however, can't hold animation — a single PNG is always one still image. So when you convert an animated WebP to PNG, this tool exports the first frame as one static PNG.
Crucially, it tells you when it spots an animated file, with a small badge next to the filename and a notice above the convert button — so you're never surprised by a missing animation. For a still image, the first frame is exactly what you want.
Most converters silently drop the animation. We flag it instead: animated WebP in, first-frame PNG out, clearly labelled.
Lossless Quality & Transparent Backgrounds
Lossless means no compromise: the PNG is re-encoded with zero compression artifacts, so fine text, sharp edges, and gradients survive exactly as decoded from the WebP.
Transparency is where PNG earns its place. WebP can store an alpha channel, and converting WebP to PNG preserves it perfectly — so a downloaded logo, icon, or cut-out stays transparent instead of getting a white box behind it. JPG would flatten it; PNG keeps it.
To make this visible, the converter shows each result on a checkerboard backdrop — transparent areas reveal the checker, opaque images don't. What you see is exactly what you'll get.
PNG is the right target for:
- Web graphics
- Logos & icons
- Product cut-outs
- Screenshots
- Editing source
WebP to PNG on Windows, Mac & Your Browser
The same browser tool works everywhere. Here's what it solves in each case.
On Windows 10 & 11
No plugin or codec needed — the browser handles WebP to PNG on Windows directly, so that downloaded image finally opens in your usual apps.
On Mac
Preview can export one file at a time and fumbles batches. Drop the whole folder here for a lossless batch and download it as a ZIP.
Why is my download a .webp?
Because the website served WebP to load faster — your browser just saved what it received. It's not Chrome corrupting your file. Convert it here and it opens everywhere.
Your Images Never Leave Your Device
Every other WebP to PNG converter in the top results uploads your files to a server. This tool doesn't: your images are decoded and converted by your own browser's canvas, so nothing is ever transmitted.
Because nothing is uploaded, there's no size cap, no queue, and no account to create — and the tool keeps working even if your connection drops after the page loads.
On-device only
Conversion happens in your browser. No image is ever sent to us or anyone else.
No limits
No file-size cap and no batch limit, because there's no server doing the work.
Nothing stored
We can't keep what we never receive. Close the tab and every trace is gone.
